Funeral Services for Willie J. Thrasher, 75, of De Soto will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at theDe Soto Baptist Church (8655 Church Street) in De Soto, KS. Burial will follow in Eudora Cemetery, Eudora, KS. He died September 2, 2011 at his home.
He was born February 14, 1936 in Love County, Oklahoma the son of J.C. and Goldie (Henry) Thrasher.
He graduated from Arkansas Tech University and served his country in the Navy during the Korean War. He worked for General Motors and also for Hercules Army Ammunition Plant. He was a member of the De Soto Baptist Church, De Soto VFW and the De Soto Masonic Lodge.
He married Belva Gabriel on December 14, 1973 in Tahlequah, OK. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include a daughter, Kelley and husband, Bret Chapman, Lenexa, KS; a son, Jon Kobler, De Soto, KS; two grandchildren, Katelyn and Jacob; six brothers, Darrell and wife, Ella Thrasher, Shawnee, KS, Pat Thrasher, De Soto, KS, Allen and wife, Cheryl, Easton, KS, Fred and wife, Sue of Warsaw, MO; Jack Thrasher of Ft. Smith, AR, H.B. Thrasher, De Soto, KS; three sisters, Ann and husband, Marvin Cowan, De Soto, KS, Joyce and husband, Alvin Bowman, Ozark, AR, Betty Lue and husband, Steve Capehart, Marshall, TX.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother, and a sister, Shirley Rafaker.
The family will greet friends from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at the De Soto Baptist Church.
The family suggests memorials to De Soto Baptist Church, De Soto Masonic Lodge, De Soto VFW or to the Charity of the Donor’s Choice and may be sent in care of the Warren-McElwain Mortuary – Eudora Chapel.
