William Leonard

Memorial services for William Robert Leonard, 89, Lawrence will be held at a later date.  Inurnment will be held at a later date in Oak Hill Cemetery. He died June  30, 2009 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

He was born October 29, 1919, in Vancouver, British, Columbia the son of Percival Osmond and Agnes (Harling) Leonard.

He was naturalized on June 29, 1943.  He served his country during WW II as 2nd Lieutenant in the Army Air Corp.

Mr. Leonard worked for 40 years as a mechanical engineer for ATSF (Atchison Topeka Santa Fe) Railroad.  He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Shriners, Corpus Christi Catholic Church and a volunteer at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

He married Wilda Pirl on February 23, 1947 in Redlands, CA.  She preceded him in death on January 3, 2006.

Survivors include two daughters, Laurie Magee, Lawrence, EvaLyn Wilson, Fairway, KS; one son, Frederick Leonard, Columbia, South Carolina; and six grandchildren.

Family suggests memorials in his name to the Shriners Hospital for Children or Douglas County Hospice and sent in care of the Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
