Wanda L. Adams

Wanda Louise Adams passed away peacefully in the presence of family on July 24, 2022, at the age of 70 in Lawrence, Kansas. She was born on November 8, 1951, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, the fourth of 6 children. Her father Howard Kenneth Mooney died when she was 7, and she along with her brothers and sister were raised by her mother Florence Louise Owens Mooney.

She married Jerry Adams on September 5, 1995, in Lawrence and they were happily married for 26 years.

She worked at King Radio for more than 20 years and retired from Amarr Garage Doors. She was a loving wife and grandmother who was in every sense of the word the “matriarch” of the family. Her fondest memories were from family gatherings. She was fiercely independent and hated being told what to do. She was a crafty woman who enjoyed crocheting for friends and family and loved making photo collages and photo albums.

She is preceded in death by her brothers Jimmy and Kevin and her sister Brenda.

She is survived by her oldest brother Ken and youngest brother David. She is survived by her three children Candy Kay Patterson of Lawrence, Robert (Lisa) Patterson, Jr. of Tonganoxie and Kenneth (Lynda) Patterson, also of Tonganoxie. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren: Felicia, Stephen, Ashleigh, Austin, Amber, Ali, Austin, Courtney, Robby, Grace and Audrey and 13 great grandchildren: Elanyha, Elyjah, TaiKai, Mishayla, Milena, Zane, TJ, Cole, Kinleigh, Miles, Peyton, Mayson, Elliot. She is also survived by three stepchildren Sonya Burns, Angela Cahoone, and Billy Adams. Pallbearers are Wanda’s nephews Larry Burton, Bruce Burton, Rusty Burton, Wade Mooney, William Mooney and family friend Dwight Byers.

Family will greet guests at the visitation on Sunday July 31, 2022, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Warren McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Services will be Monday, Aug. 1, 2022, at 2:30 p.m. at Warren McElwain with burial following in Oak Hill Cemetery.
