Funeral services for Vernon H. “Bud” Broers, 90, Lawrence will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, February 17, 2014 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Burial will follow at Sutton Cemetery. He died Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at his home.
Vernon was born September 9, 1923 in De Soto, KS the son of Harold and Pearl (Koehler) Broers.
He worked in maintenance for Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant and was also a bricklayer.
He was a member of the Construction General Laborers Local Union 1290 AFL/CIO.
He married Frances Nadine Kring on May 5, 1947 in Oskaloosa, KS. She preceded him in death in 1996.
Survivors include one grandson, Scott and wife Stacey, Ozawkie; a granddaughter, Deana Broers and husband Kenny Evans, Lawrence; three great grandchildren, Alex and Conner Broers, and Samantha Evans. He was also preceded in death by his son, Ronald Lee Broers on October 13, 2011; and one sister Dorothy; and two great grandchildren, Hayley Broers and Christian Evans.
The family will greet friends from 6 – 7:30 p.m. Sunday, February 16th at the mortuary.
The family suggests memorials in his name to Sutton Cemetery and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
