Verle D. Istas

Funeral Mass for Verle D. Istas, 92, De Soto, KS will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 5, 2020 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Eudora, KS, with a visitation starting at 10:00 a.m. Please be aware that due to COVID-19 and safety precautions, we are asking his loved ones to please respect and comply with social distancing and must wear a mask. Verle passed away Saturday, October 31, 2020 at his home.

Verle was born on January 4, 1928 in Aurora, KS, the son of Octave and Etta (Chaput) Istas.

He married Willadean Bergstrom on November 5, 1949 in Concordia, KS. They were married for 56 years. She preceded him in death in 2005. Verle was also preceded in death by his parents, and eleven brothers and sisters.

At age 19 he started with List and Clark Construction and worked for 46 years, retiring in 1993.

His hobbies included concrete yard ornament, barn wood furniture, and silhouette metal designs.

Survivors include his children; Gary (Mary) Istas, Glenda (Richard- deceased) Bull, Bonnie (Keith) Andrews, three sisters, seven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and four great great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made in Verle’s name to Vitas Hospice or Holy Family Catholic Church for masses and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th Street, Lawrence, KS 66044.

    My thoughts and prayers are with Gary, Glenda, Bonnie and their families. Uncle Verle lived his life to the fullest and we should all follow in his footsteps. I pray God gives you all comfort and strength.♥️

    Ohhh so sorry kids–When I went to town last week & drove by the house I was wondering about him. He differently lived a long productive life. He & your Mom was the best.

    Good man. Very quiet and liked to be at his cabin when at Lakeview. He was always creating neat things. I enjoyed knowing him and Wiladean .
