Vera “Lucille” Stahl

Funeral services for Vera “Lucille” Stahl, 89, Lawrence, KS, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 18, 2011 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.  Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery in Lawrence.  She died on Monday, June 13, 2011 at Pioneer Ridge in Lawrence.

She was born on June 19, 1921 in Sterling, KS, the daughter of Benjamin and Emma Miller Holloway.

Mrs. Stahl was a homemaker.  She and her husband had formerly owned and operated restaurants in Sterling and Ulysses, KS.  They moved from Wichita Falls, TX to Lawrence in 1968.

She was a member of the First Christian Church in Lawrence, the Social Order of the Beauciants, and the Fidelity White Shrine of Jerusalem.  She also belonged to a craft club.

She was married to William H. “Bill” Stahl on March 16, 1941 in Little Rock, AR.  He preceded her in death July 22, 2008.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda Courtright of Surprise, AZ, a son, William H.  Jr., of Olympia, WA, three grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.

The family will greet friends from 10 a.m. until service time on Saturday at the mortuary.

The family suggests memorials in her name to the Kidney Foundation and may be sent in care of the mortuary.

    I have known Lucille through the First Christian Church and the Homebuilders Class for many many years. I have visited her at least once a month since she was in Care Homes as a representative of the church aand a friend. She has had a long hard struggle with illness.
    Let us rejoice that she is now free.
