Memorial services for Theodore Eugene “Gene” Archer, 81, Lawrence, will be held 10:30 am Saturday at Lawrence Free Methodist Church. He died August 22, 2015 at Medicalodges in Eudora, KS after a chronic illness.
He was born May 25, 1934, in Knoxville, Iowa, the son of Walter and Florence Fleming Farmer. At his birth mother’s death, Gene and his sister, Rosemary, were adopted by E.A. and Nelly C. Archer of Waterloo, Iowa.
He had lived in Lawrence since October of 2009; he formerly lived in Dallas, TX and Bastrop, LA.
He worked in computer operations. He was an avid sports fan and although his roots were in Texas, he loved the Kansas Jayhawks even before he moved to Lawrence. In his younger days, he played in a church softball league. He also enjoyed gospel music and sang in a men’s quartet while living in Louisiana.
He married Joyce Ann Bounds in December, 1958; they were married 33 years before divorcing. He married Anna Marie Jones on June 15, 2000 in Duncanville, Texas. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include a daughter, Vonda Carney and husband, Richard, of Woodland, GA; a son, Delwin Archer and wife, Jean, of Duncanville, TX; three step-daughters, Carolyn Heacock and husband, Doug, of Lawrence, KS; Cheryl Ott and husband, Tom, of Ellensburg, WA; Mary Fairburn and husband, John Brothers, of Lawrence, KS; one sister, Rosemary Freed; 10 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; 10 step-grandchildren and 5 step-great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made in his name to Project Lively and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
