Shirley Ann Higgins

A Celebration of Life for Shirley Ann Higgins, 76, Lawrence will be held from 2 – 5 p.m. Sunday, August 23, 2015 at the Smith Center at Brandon Woods 4730 Brandon Woods Terrace in Lawrence. Inurnment will also be at a later date at Riverside Cemetery in Mammoth Spring, AR. Shirley passed away Sunday, July 12, 2015 at Brandon Woods at Alvamar.

Shirley was born November 29, 1938 in Waynesburg, PA the daughter of James Clovis and Martha Crawford.

She was a member and very active in the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary.

She was a Licensed Practical Nurse in Missouri, Arkansas, and Kansas. She most recently worked for First Student as a PAT “Grandma on The Bus”.

She married Elzie J. Martin on June 18, 1957 in Follansbee, West VA. He preceded her in death September 6, 1991. She then married Lewis Higgins and he also preceded her in death.

Survivors include two daughters, Patricia “Patty” Martin, Rebecca “Becky Ann” Berglund; 10 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Carol Sue Martin, sister, Goldie Lea Morris; and brother, Charles E. Montgomery.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in her name to the family to help with expenses and may be sent in care of the mortuary.

    What a wonderful woman! I will never forget my visits with her, sitting on her porch and listening her wonderful stories. It was an honor to be her nurse!
