Sandra Mancewicz Hefferren

A Mass of Christian Burial for Sandra Ann Mancewicz Hefferren, 76, Lawrence will be held 1:00 p.m., Saturday, December 17, 2011 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Lawrence.  Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Chicago, Illinois.  She died December 15, 2011 at home.

Sandra was born on January 9, 1935 in Hamtramick, Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of Stanley C. and Ann (Printz) Mancewicz.   

Sandra was raised in Hamtramick, Detroit, Michigan.  She attended the local Catholic grammar school and Dominican high school in Detroit.  She received a BS Degree in Spectroscopy, Sienna Heights College, Adrian, Michigan, a Master of Science Degree in Spectroscopy, Mount Holyoke College, Holyoke, Massachusetts and a Master of Business Administration in Finance, Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago, Illinois.

She had a triple appointment with the US Navy, National Bureau of Standards, and the American Dental Association Council on Dental Research.  She was a Laboratory Manager for Bone Metabolism and Battle Injuries Research at the US Naval Research Center, Bethesda, Maryland.

She was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Lawrence. 

She married John J. Hefferren on February 6, 1965 at St. Matthew’s Cathedral, Washington, DC.  They lived in Chicago and raised their children in Evanston.

Her family includes three daughters, Anne Walsh Hefferren Manske, and husband, Jonathan Manske, Littleton, Colorado; Aileen Carol Hefferren Harkless, and husband, Charles Harkless, New York, New York; Clare Jean Hefferren, Chicago, Illinois; one son, Neal Richard Hefferren, and wife, Caryn Ladd Hefferren, Kansas City, Missouri; five grandchildren, Sabine Sahara Manske, Owen Waller and Perry Rex Hefferren-Harkless, Patrick John and Finnegan James Hefferren.

Other family includes her brother, Thomas A. Mancewicz , Detroit, Michigan; and her neices and nephews Mary Susan Mancewicz Simpson, and husband, Nick Simpson and their daughter, Miranda Simpson, Woodland, Colorado; Joseph Paul Mancewiz, and wife, Richelle Veale Mancewicz and their children, Evan and Cole Mancewicz, Los Angles, California; Martha Mancewicz Timmer, and husband Jeff Timmer and their children, Sophie Anne and David Timmer, Culver City, California; and Mark Mancewicz, Los Angeles, California.

A Wake will be from 6-8:30 p.m. with a Rosary at 7 p.m. on Friday, December 16, 2011 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. 

Memorial contributions may be made in her name to Big Brothers and Big Sisters or Boys and Girls Club in Lawrence and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
