Ruth Viola Bryan Daum

Ruth Viola Bryan Daum, 97, Lawrence died Thursday, October 31, 2013 at Pioneer Ridge Retirement Community. Please celebrate Ruth’s Life by attending The Festival of Trees in her honor at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at Liberty Hall, 644 Massachusetts, Lawrence. Private burial was held at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Ruth was born July 26, 1916 in Hesper, KS the daughter of Arthur Hayes and Mary Emma (Vogt) Bryan.
Ruth Daum attended schools in Lawrence, Kansas City, MO, and Topeka.
She was a member of Rebekah Lodge since 1960, served as Noble Grand in 1973, a member of Ladies Auxiliary Patriarchs Militant, member of Central United Methodist Church, and a member of the Ladies Thursday Sewing Club, and A.A.P.P.
She worked at J.C. Penney, and the children’s shop The Pride ‘N Joy as a salesperson, and Hercules Sunflower Plant for 30 years as an X-Ray Technician until she retired in 1971.
She married Chester E. Daum on May 9, 1932 in Lawrence. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 1992. He preceded her in death on May 18, 1993.
Survivors include one daughter, Helen Joan Lundwig Lawrence; one son, Roger E. Daum, Valley Falls, KS; six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Elsie Carrol Van Vleck; five sisters; and two brothers.
The family suggests memorials in her name to The Shelter, Inc. and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
