Ruth N. Rieder

Graveside services for Ruth Naomi (Patton) Rieder, 94, Lawrence will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, June 14, 2014 at Highland Park Cemetery in Kansas City, KS. She died Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Ruth was born April 9, 1920 in Midway, VA., the daughter of James A. Patton and Nora M. Lanter Patton. After growing up in Roanoke, VA area, Ruth met Lieutenant Ernest D. Rieder at the end of WW II. They were married in Reno, NV on May 12, 1946 en route to a new life in Oakland, CA.

From there they spent a brief time in Denver, then moved back to Ernest’s hometown of Lenexa, KS. After Ernest’s death in 1985, Ruth moved to Lawrence to be close to her family. She was an excellent housewife and enjoyed fishing, playing cards, playing the slots, various forms of needlework, and most of all being with her grandchildren.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Ernest, her parents, and three brothers and one sister. She is survived by her son, Roger Rieder and wife, Alicia of Lawrence; granddaughter Christy Anderson and husband, Josh of Houston, TX, grandson, Daniel Rieder and fiancée Mary Kaiser of Lawrence; two great grandsons and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family suggests memorial in her name to the American Heart Association or the American Lung Association and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.

    Dear Alicia, Roger and family,

    So sorry to hear of your loss. Ruth was a good friend to my mother, Grace. I know you will miss her greatly. Time does help to lessen our grief. We will be keeping you in our thoughts and prayers.
