Ruby Belle Peaslee

Funeral services for Ruby Belle Peaslee, 90, Lawrence, KS will be held at 10:00am. on Saturday, June 18, 2022, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Lawrence, KS. A private family burial will take place following at Memorial Park Cemetery in Lawrence, KS. Ruby passed away on Saturday, June 11, 2022, at Pioneer Ridge Assisted Living in Lawrence, KS.

Ruby was born on January 7, 1932, in Lawrence, KS, the daughter of Leonard and Ada (Kurtz) Bagby.

Ruby married Dwayne Peaslee on December 22, 1951, in Lawrence, KS, and he preceded her in death.

Ruby worked as a candy striper before becoming a legal assistant. During the years she dedicated to raising her family she became the church Secretary for Immanuel Lutheran Church of Lawrence. She followed her passion for serving the church as a founding, and current member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, and working as their church secretary. Upon leaving her role there, she worked briefly in the Administrative Offices of the Lawrence Unified School District before completely retiring at the age of 70.

She has remained an active member of the LWML (Lutheran Women’s Missionary League), supporting her church in volunteerism over the years and attending her church sewing group, making quilt projects for Lutheran World Relief and lap robes for local retirement homes around the community. As health dictated, she remained less active in the community, but she continued to crochet scarves for the homeless and was an active financial supporter of The Lutheran Hour, The Salvation Army, Arbor Day Foundation, and St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

Ruby is survived by her children, Kyle W. Peaslee, Valerie D. Earhart and her husband Darrin. Also, her loving sister Reta Heine, cousins, great nieces and nephews.

The family will greet friends from 5:00 ~ 7:00 p.m., Friday, June 17, 2022, at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence, KS.

Memorial contributions may be made in Ruby’s name to Just Foods, community food bank of Douglas County, and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th Street, Lawrence, KS 66044.

    Dearest Friend Valerie, Betsy let me know about your sweet mothers home going! I am so sorry for your deep loss . A mother is irreplaceable in our lives and you were so blessed to have had her for the years she was with you. She ran her race well and she will have many crowns to place at Jesus feet!     So sorry to hear about Ruby.
    She was just a joy to be around. I loved it when she would join me and mom and Joyce at the Stull Church for meals. We always had a great time. I always enjoyed seeing her at the Hodges Family Gathering. She will be greatly missed. Your in my families thoughts and prayers.

    So sorry to hear about Mrs. Peaslee!! She and Dewayne were the Sr King and Queen for the St Patrick’s Day Parade and we certainly enjoyed them.
    It’s wonderful that they are reunited again.

    I was saddened to learn of Ruby’s passing. We knew each other for many years through our husbands who were colleagues in the Union. She was a delightful person and I’ll miss her.
