Robert Carter

No services are planned for Robert Lewis Carter, 85, Lawrence, KS.  There will be a private family gathering to celebrate his life.  Inurnment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.  He died on Saturday, August 18, 2012 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Robert was born on July 15, 1927 in Topeka, KS the son of Otis Charles and Mary Olive Ralston Carter.

Mr. Carter served in the Navy aboard the U.S.S. Miami Light Cruiser during WWII at age 17, with his father’s permission.  Shortly after the war, he served in the Army, stationed in Germany.  He learned to pilot a small plane in 1947-48.  He later retired from the University of Kansas after 29 years as a welder in 1989. 

Robert “Bob” enjoyed fishing, playing dominoes and spending time with family and friends.

He was a former member of the VFW.

He married Ruth Samrow on August 31, 1972 in Lawrence.  She preceded him in death January 30, 1996. 

Survivors include two sons, Robert Samrow (Carter), and wife, Yogolka, Uhingen, Germany, Allen Samrow (Carter), and wife, Ramona, Eudora, KS; one daughter, Linda Carter, Lawrence; three grandchildren, Erin Carter, Ryan, and John Samrow; nieces, Diana Owens, Lawrence, Debbie Cox, Texas; and nephew, Mike Carter, Phoenix, AZ.  He was also preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Gerna Carter, Darlene Cox; and brothers, Allen and Roy Carter.

    Bob you will be missed, I remember all of the good times you gave us, at Steak . and Shake and when we all would meet up to eat at IHOP and Perkins, for breakfast. RIP sir, you were a great friend and customer.
