Robert Keith Havener, 91, resident of Brandon Woods Care Center died March 19, 2011 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. A grave-side service and inurnment will take place for immediate family at Arlington National Cemetery.
He was born on November 16, 1919 in Gordon, Nebraska the oldest son of John and Agnes (Sinamark) Havener. He was one of three surviving children. His sister, Doris (Ronald) Stewart and brother, Franklin, both predeceased him.
Robert married Margaret Elizabeth Altenburger in Princeton, MO on November 23, 1941. She preceded him in death on August 14, 2008.
Robert served with distinction in the U.S. Army for 20 years, serving in World War II and the Korean Conflict. He retired from the army in 1960 in Cleveland, Ohio where he and his family lived until 1980. He and Margaret then moved to Hutchinson, Kansas where he purchased an H&R Block franchise.
He is survived by three children, Karen Jo and her husband, Victor Voydock of Newton, Massachusetts, Roberta Kay and her husband, Dennis Becker of Newton, Iowa, and Jon Robert Havener and his wife, Lynn Cool of Lawrence, Kansas; three grandchildren, Nora Kay Ranney, Melissa Anne and her husband, Gary Vasseau, and Karl Bowman Havener; and three great grandchildren, Gregory Benjamin Vasseau, Rebekah Elisabeth Vasseau, and Gabrielle Maxine Vasseau.
