Funeral services for Richard L. Morris, 83, Lawrence, KS, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 12, 2013 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence, KS. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, October 14, 2013 at the Zion Missionary Baptist Church and burial will follow at Zion Missionary Baptist Cemetery in McAlester, OK. He died on Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
Richard was born on July 19, 1930 in Ardmore, OK, the son of Wood and Jane Baptiste Marris.
He moved to Lawrence in 1945 and was a student at Haskell Institute.
Mr. Morris was formerly employed as a Bakery Instructor at Haskell Indian Nations University. He retired in 1980.
He was a member of the Haskell Alumnae and had attended the Lawrence Indian Methodist Church.
He married Susie Jane Fisher in March 25, 1950 in Kansas City, MO. She preceded him in death on January 18, 2008.
Survivors include a daughter, Gloria J. Morris, of Lawrence; a brother, Roscoe Marris, Englewood, CO; one half brother, Terry Marris, Ardmore, OK; two grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife; and a son, Terry L. Morris.
The family suggests memorials in his name to the Lawrence Indian Methodist Church and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
Sorry to hear about Richard. Be thinking of you and the family. We will miss him. Trying to be there.

Our thoughts & prayers. Have known Richard for many years. Always a smile and a friendly hello. Have missed seeing him at bowling lately. Always enjoyed talking with him.
We will be in Oklahoma and miss the visitation.

One of the greatest things about living in Lawrence all my life is growing up being friends with the Haskell family. I will miss Richard’s friendly smile and always a generous hello with lots of happiness in his voice. In my mind I always think they are happy to go to be with their honey’s in heaven, I am sure Susie was waiting with open arms. My deepest condolences Gloria, I will be thinking of you during this difficult time. Good Bless and safe travels.
Richard and Susie were a wonderful neighbors.
Richard Morris always made me smile. I was always a happier person after I had been around him.
