Randall W. (Randy) Lewis, born November 27, 1947, died at home September 5, 2018 surrounded by his family.
Randy grew up in Lawrence, graduating from Lawrence High School in 1965. He graduated from Pittsburg State University in 1970. After graduation, he worked for the Kansas Highway Commission. In 1975 he began his 40-year career with Kansas Farm Bureau. He retired in 2015.
A true “Mr. fix-it” and “lake rat”, he liked playing golf, trips to the beach, vacations with his family, occasional trips to the casino and seldom missed a Lawrence High boy’s basketball game.
He was a loyal friend and devoted to his family, especially “The lights of my life”, his six grandchildren.
He will be greatly missed by his wife of 51 years, Sue, daughter Jennifer and son-in-law Steve King of Nixa, Missouri, son Mike and daughter-in-law Kristel of Lawrence, Kansas, sister Karen and her husband Dick Lind of Lawrence, and the lifetime friends of the Saturday morning breakfast crew. And, as he often said, “the best part of my life”, his grandkids Katie, Kevin and Kyle King of Nixa, Missouri and Macade, Luke and Kate Lewis of Lawrence.
Memorial services for Randy will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, September 8, 2018 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. He passed away Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at his home.
In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Randy’s name to the American Diabetes Association, Lawrence High boy’s basketball program, or Visiting Nurses and may be sent in care of Warren McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th Street, Lawrence, KS 66044.

Dear Sue:
Denny and I were so very fortunate to benefit from Randy’s guidance while we were involved with the Jackson County Farm Bureau. He always delivered such considered and diplomatic advice. But, Randy was not all business, by any means. I always appreciated how he took the time to get to know everyone on the board and sincerely cared about each member and their family. Bearing in mind that he had boards in nearly 10 counties, that’s a lot of caring. Just proves what a blessing he was to so many! Our many condolences.
Sorry and sad for your loss, Sue. You have so many wonderful years to remember.
Please accept our condolences for your loss. Our thoughts are with you during this difficult time.
Sue and family – I will fondly remember the many years Randy & I worked together at Kansas Farm Bureau. His smile and friendship will be missed. I pray for God’s peace and comfort for all of you. Debbie Hargrave
