Mass of Christian Burial for Patricia Joan Koehler, 84, Lawrence, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 24, 2009, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary. She died July 20, 2009, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. She was a life-long resident of Lawrence.
She was born on October 11, 1924, in Lawrence, KS, the daughter of Don Fredrick and Elsie Jewel (Forrest) Carlos.Patricia graduated from Liberty Memorial High School in 1942. She attended Ursaline Academy, Paola, KS. She attended Mount St. Scholastica, Atchison, KS, where she was a member of the Bel Canto Singing Group. She returned to Lawrence and attended the University of Kansas. She was the accountable mail clerk at the Lawrence Post Office for 38 years.
Mrs. Koehler was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, a member of the KU Alumni Association, the Douglas County Historical Society, Clinton Lake Historical Society, Charter member of the Douglas County Town and Country Republican Party, Friend of the Library, a volunteer at Watkins Museum, a member of the United Federation of Postal Workers; and a Volunteer of the Red Cross for 20 years. She is a member of St. John the Evangelist and a member of the Alter Society.
She married William “Bill” Paul Koehler on August 6, 1946, in Lawrence, KS. He preceded her in death on October 21, 1989.
Survivors include three daughters, Mary Lynn Stuart, and husband, Jim, Lawrence, Joan E. Elder and husband, Jeff, Lawrence, and Wendy A. Koerner and husband, Larry, Lawrence; two sons, Michael R. and wife, Karen, Lawrence, and David C., Lawrence; two brothers, John Jerome Carlos, Lawrence, and Don Forrest Carlos, Glendale, CA; grandchildren, L. Jennipher Vance, Jeffrey Stuart and S. Bailey Stuart, Daniel Koehler and Kalaina Davis, Justin Elder and Jason Elder, Skylar Koerner and Avery Koerner; 6 great grandchildren.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 23. The family will greet friends following
