Patricia Ann Hardister

A Celebration of Life for Patricia Ann Hardister, 81, Lawrence will be held at 5:00 p.m. Saturday, September 19, 2015 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Inurnment will be held at 3:00 p.m. Monday, September 21, 2015 at Oak Hill Cemetery. Patricia passed away Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Patricia was born August 7, 1934 in Lawrence the daughter of Robert and Jamella (Smith) Ice.

She was a lifelong resident of Lawrence.

She married Orbie Harvey Hardister, Sr. on August 27, 1949 in Ottawa, KS. He preceded her in death December 22, 2003.

Survivors include a daughter, Velva Rollins, Lawrence; sons, Orbie Hardister, Jr., Edwardsville, KS, Robert John Hardister, Ottawa, KS, Rodney Hardister, Dallas, TX; nine grandchildren; six great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; one sister, Mildred Hogan, Lawrence; cousins; and many other relatives. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Roberta Fenstemaker and a great granddaughter, Kaleigh Alexis Roberts.

She was a member of the Indian Hills Church of God in Lawrence.

She worked for the University of Kansas concession stands for eight years, Taco Johns for three years, Allen Press, was a custodian at the Riverfront Mall, worked at TG&Y, and owned a ceramic shop.

Pat enjoyed traveling, crocheting, beadwork, and needlepoint. She loved her grandkids and loved to clean and cook. She had collections of spoons, plates, bells, owls, and VW Bugs.

The family will greet friends at 4:00 p.m. before the service on Saturday, September 19th at the mortuary.

Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Alzheimer’s Association or VNA Hospice and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.

    Grandma, your laugh was contagious. I will never forget you and Grandpa coming to visit when the girls were little. Your hugs were always bigger than life. We shared memories and pictures, talks about the family tree and growing up with your parents. Thank you for loving me from day one and allowing me to return that back to you. I hope your arrival was amazing. I promise to make sure the great great knows the family tree and lives up to his last name!

    My heart goes out to this wonderful family. Pat was one terrific soul…she loved much…and her home was always open to greet people in…she will be so missed….but her memories linger on forever!
