Ozella Burns

 

Funeral services for Ozella Eva Burns, 87, Lawrence will be held 10:00 a.m.  Friday, August 28, 2009 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.  She died August 24, 2009 at Baldwin Health Care Center.

She was born September 6, 1921 in Lamar, Arkansas the daughter of John L. and Maude P. Horton Pearson.

She was a cook for Woodlawn School in Lawrence for 27 years.  Her hobbies included quilting, crocheting and cooking.  She was a member of Indian Hills Church of God, she was involved with Girl Scouts/Brownies and Boy Scouts/Cub Scouts.  She was also a 4-H Leader where she taught cooking and sewing.

She married Thomas L. Burns on September 28, 1939 in Ottawa, Kansas.  He preceded her in death on June 23, 2003.  She was also preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

Other survivors include three daughters, Carol Sue Taul, of Baldwin City, KS; Patricia Ann Breithaupt, Meriden, KS; Jeannette Marie Hadley, Lawrence, KS; one son, Thomas E. Burns, Lawrence, KS; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren.

The family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, August 27, 2009 at the mortuary. 

The family suggests memorials in her name to Heart of America Hospice and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
