Ola Delle Faucher

Ola Delle Stover Faucher was born April 6, 1949, in Salina, KS.  She burst into crimson and blue rays of light and was welcomed into eternity by Phog Allen and James Naismith with the KU fight song on March 28, 2024.

Ola is preceded in death by her mother: Chrystal Cleo Copeman Stover; her father: John Lucas Stover; two half brothers: Dale and Darrell Stover, and her sister: Oma Belle Lacey.  Ola leaves behind skeins of bureaucratic red tape that she slashed throughout her lifetime.  She also leaves behind her husband of 51 years: Ted Faucher; her daughter and successful school administrator: Lysette DeBoard and her trophy husband: Jeremy DeBoard; son and successful building manager: Andre Faucher and arm-candy wife: Jessica Faucher; and a semi-feral, dirt-worshiping, tree-hugging daughter: Chrystal Hunter and her stud muffin husband: Adam Hunter.  Ola also leaves behind six beloved, brilliant, talented, and better than anyone else’s grandchildren and one spit-fire of a great grandchild.

Ola earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from her beloved University of Kansas- whose campus is prettier and better than any other campus.  Ola spent 47 years working at KU.  She was best known to many through email, university policy changes, and labor negotiations.  Ola’s proudest work accomplishments include: migrating KU and the Medical Center to the PeopleSoft system, the introduction of gender-neutral bathrooms, and creating a smoke-free campus.  Ola was also a past president of the HEUG Board and retired as the Director of Human Resources in 2019.

Ola enjoyed traveling with friends and family, cheering on KU basketball, watching movies,  singing along to rock and roll, and tie-dye.  She knew it was time to depart this life when she finally wore out her extended-edition “Lord of the Ring” DVD set.  After 74 years of healthy living- including living through the ‘60s drug and alcohol-free, the greatest irony is that she succumbed to lung cancer.

Her funeral will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at Westside Presbyterian Church in Lawrence.  A 3:30 p.m. burial will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery for friends and family.  In her honor, please feel free to wear either your favorite Jayhawk or tie-dye attire.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to KU Endowment for the benefit of KU.  Please enter “School of Public Affairs & Administration Scholarship (07859)” as the area and “Ola Faucher” as the person who is being memorialized.  To give online, visit kuendowment.org/memorials.  Alternately, please make checks payable to “KU Endowment” and send them to the following address: KU Endowment Memorials, P.O. Box 928, Lawrence, KS 66044 or may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th Street, Lawrence, KS 66044.

For those who would like to attend her funeral via Zoom, please email lysettedeboard@gmail.com and she will send you the Zoom link.

Rock Chalk!

I was just a kid who kept following her son home from school and stuck around a lot, but she welcomed me into her home and the large, noisy, dynamic extended family she had around her. I am forever indebted to her boundless kindness. She helped to model for me what an adult can be.

My deepest sympathies to Ted, Crystal, Andre, Lysette and all of Ola’s family. She was a special person who made the world a better place. I remember a very small sliver of time in my life when it was just Ola, but for 99.9% of my life and memories it has been “Ola and Ted.” Like “peas and carrots” as Forrest Gump said. What a wonderful couple!

My condolences for all those grieving a fine lady. My husband was the Comtroller for KU for ten years (1980 -1990). I loved my years spent in Lawrence as John further his career in higher education administration at KU. Sincerely, Janet

My sincere condolences to Ola’s family and friends. During my decade serving as department chair at KU, Ola helped me through a number of thorny issues with uncommon insight, knowledge, and grace. KU is a better institution today because of Ola’s leadership and now legacy. May she rest in peace.

My condolences to Ola’s family and many friends. Ola was someone I depended on often during my time at KU. She talked sense into me when I needed it, provided excellent advice and advocacy, and sometimes was a partner in crime. Many people have said, and I echo, KU is a better place today because of Ola’s leadership and sense of humor. She loved this place and helped us see the best in our institution and each other.

Ola was always someone that I trusted for honesty, energy, and principal. Ola was a hard worker and treated everyone very well. I really enjoyed working with her for 28 years, and the University of Kansas was made a better place because of her direction. I am sorry that Ola is no longer with her family and friends.

I had occasion to interact with Ola while we were both in administrative positions at KU, and always found her to be both extremely helpful and a most pleasant person. It was also a pleasure when our paths crossed at Muncher’s Bakery. She will, indeed, be missed.

Ted & Ola are dear friends from the past whom I had the pleasure to visit in recent years. I did not know Ola had passed until I happened upon this obit. Always gracious, they sat with my mom near the door as our first child was being born in Lawrence in 1972. Best to Ted and family in this difficult time – and farewell to Ola. Until We Meet Again. RIP

I had the pleasure of working with Ola briefly as our employments overlapped until her retirement. Stern and wise, there wasn’t always ability to negotiate, but she was a true professional and respectful, listening intently and validating she heard you. Sometimes when you only see someone in their career life, and their loyalty to not only the responsibilities they are assigned, but to their employer and Alma mater, you fail to recognize their true pride, loyalty, and life, were represented most in the dedication to their family and loved ones. I’m sad to hear of her passing, knowing she will be missed by many at KU as well as those she has loved and touched in various ways. Much sympathy to the family, but certainly an obituary that was well written and will resonate with many. So sorry for your loss. Rock chalk ❤️💙
