A Memorial Mass for Nicholas V. “Nick” Peter, Jr., 57, Lawrence, KS, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 22, 2011 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Lawrence, KS. Private inurnment will be at a later date at Calvary Cemetery in Wichita, KS. He died on January 19, 2011 at his home.
He was born on May 10, 1953 in Wichita, KS, the son of Nicholas V. & Kathryn A. Olden Peter. He was a 1971 graduate of Kapaun High School in Wichita, KS.
Mr. Peter was employed in home building and remodeling for the past eight years and had formerly worked at Boeing Aircraft in Wichita for fourteen years.
He is survived by his daughter, Cheyenne Peters of Wichita, KS, his mother, Kathryn Olden, of Lawrence, his father, Nicholas, Sr. and his wife, Deloris Peter, of Wichita, KS. Other survivors include seven sisters; Kathy Peter, of Lawrence, Margaret and husband, Steve Dixon, of Edmond, OK, Laurie Peter and partner, Betsy Bernard, of Harding Township, NJ, Mary Elizabeth Rogers, of Prairie Village, KS, Julianne Peter, Lawrence, KS, Carolyn and husband, Ron Saal, of St. Charles, MO, Rachel and husband, Kevin Dobbs of Lawrence, KS; a brother, Jason and wife, Molly Mackinnon-Peter, of Lawrence, KS, and twenty nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a beloved brother, Stephen Peter.
A Parish Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. on Friday, January 21, 2011 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.
The family suggests memorials in his name to the Bert Nash Community Mental Health Center in Lawrence and may be made at www.bertnash.org follow donate online or may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.

I had the good fortune to meet Nick in 2008. Like any Kapaun graduate, he was witty, urbane and enlightening. Although our lives intersected only briefly, my journey is surely richer for the time we spent together.
May His light shine upon him, and may he rest in peace.
