I am so grateful to have had the privilege of being your pastor for many years during the church’s early days of moving to N 1000 Rd. We could not have made it without Mike’s constant sacrifice, joyful spirit, and wise counsel.

  53. Mark Lohrenz on September 2, 2020 at 10:36 pm

Mike was one of the first people I got to know after we moved to Eudora about six years ago. We exchanged small talk while working out at the gym at Eudora Parks and Rec. After awhile he started offering “constructive criticism” of my weight training techniques, ????, but it was all out of his genuine warmth, and curiosity, and desire to engage and share his enormous wealth of wisdom and life experience.
I knew he was battling health issues. He talked about it, but he never sought pity, and his faith and perserverence always shone through. He talked about his wife, and his children, and grandchildren, and the way his eyes lit up made it obvious just how much his family meant to him.
In one of those “small world” moments, as my wife and I were leaving from a visit to Mount Rushmore about a year ago, we happened to run into Mike and his son on their way in. I now wish that I had told him how much I admired and respected him. Mike was truly the best humanity has to offer. He will be greatly missed. My deepest condolences to his family at this difficult time.

  55. The Kramers on September 3, 2020 at 8:44 am

Mike is one of the hardest working individuals I ever knew. Great husband, father, grandfather, and friend. What a mentor to all the younger people who’s lives he has touched. Some of my fondest memories of Mike was sharing hunting and fishing stories. Mike was a conservationist at heart and was always working to improve his surrounding acres for wildlife habitat. Every young man wants to grow up to be half the man he was. I know he is looking down on all of us now, and in knowing that, it makes me want to be a better person.
Our thoughts and prayers for the Westerhouse family. We love you Sandi, Aaron, Tara, Dave, and Caitlyn.

  56. Elizabeth Woods on September 3, 2020 at 9:47 am

    To all the Westerhouse Families,
Watching Mike grow up in our Methodist Church with his family always sharing and caring about each other and all in the community was a gift. Mike and his Dad Westie worked on many Neighbor Helping Neighbor projects throughout the area. Mom, Dorothy, would be in charge of planning the community meal for the workers. The family was quietly sharing time and their faith with others. Mike was the one who had installed my folks new furnace. His company was just getting started. Mike was busy, but never, ever, too busy to check on all his customers if anything needed attention with the furnace or anyone’s air conditioners he’d installed. When Mike installed our heat pump unit we knew it would be a good investment because Mike had a solid reputation and was a friend. When the heat pump gasped it’s last, Mike and sons were there to assess and put in a new unit. His sons have shown their sense of care and integrity for all their customers. Mike said the last time we talked with him in person, “I have this illness. It doesn’t have a cure yet. I’m slowly dying and don’t know how long I have to live.” His visit and candid discussion about his illness was a precious gift of sharing, understanding, and the hope of eternal life. Mike’s friendship and faith in God has been a blessing to all our family. Elizabeth & Nick
