Melvin George Lange, 92, formerly of Union, NJ, died at Lawrence Memorial Hospital on January 5, 2020.
Melvin was born in Baltimore, MD on September 2, 1927 to George and Eleanor (Whitmore) Lange. He entered the US Navy after high school where he met Richard Daniel, who introduced him to his sister. Phyllis became the love of his life and they were married 65 years before her death in 2016. He served in the Navy and the Navy Reserves and worked hard to provide for his family and to be a good husband and father. For a number of years he was highly involved in Union’s Boys and Girls Club, serving as president of the Men’s Club one year. He also met several lifelong friends through those activities.
He is survived by his son Mark (Lori) Lange; his daughter, Patricia (Mark) Wilson, all of Lawrence; grandchildren Heidi (Jason) Hackel, Omaha, NE; Katie (Nate) Monnig, Boise, ID; Scot (Emily) Lange, Lawrence; and Kelsie (Joey) Brown, Denver, CO; eleven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brother Charles (Doris) of Baltimore and great-grandson Joshua Melvin Lange.
Visitation will be at 10:00 am Monday, January 13, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 am at McCracken Funeral Home, 1500 Morris Ave., Union, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to The Seeing Eye, Inc., Morristown, NJ.
