Mary Nuñez

Mass of Christian Burial services for Mary Nuñez, 84, Lawrence, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 14, 2012 at St. Johns the Evangelist Catholic Church in Lawrence.  Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Lawrence.  She died on Monday, December 10, 2012 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Mary was born on December 25, 1927 in Lecompton, KS the daughter of Thomas and Simona (Carrillo) Garcia.

She was a quality checker for Hallmark Cards before she retired in 1994.  She also worked at JC Penney.

She married Pablo Nuñez, Sr. on June 20, 1944 in Lawrence, KS.  He preceded her in death December 22, 2001.

Survivors include John Nuñez, and wife, Melinda, Lawrence, Nicholas Nuñez, and wife, Edda, Temuco, Chili, Maxine Nuñez, Kansas City, MO, Michael Nuñez Lawrence, Jean Walters, Austin, TX, Pablo Nuñez, Jr., Lawrence, 18 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; and sisters, Lavina Vasquez, Lawrence, Mona Brown, VA, Nancy Findley, Riverside, CA.  She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Laura Nuñez, December 1956; one grandson, Alex Segura December 1972; five brothers, and two sisters.

A visitation will begin at 6 p.m. with a parish rosary being recited at 7 p.m. Thursday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary, after which the family will receive friends until 8:00 p.m.

The family suggests memorials in her name to St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church for the Fiesta and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
