Funeral services for Marilou Bateson, 68, Lawrence will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 3, 2018 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. She passed away Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
Marilou was born July 27, 1950 in Berrien, Michigan the daughter of Robert Walter and Mildred Pauline (Wood) Estes.
Marilou graduated from Lawrence High, and has lived in the community most of her life, and of course is a huge Jayhawk fan. She worked as a dental assistant for 40 plus years. Whenever she wasn’t working, you could find her on the golf course. Golfing with her family and friends was her favorite past time. She was a member of the Jayhawk Club, and a trustee for Eagles lodge, where she was also a member of the Eagles golf club. She is a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, and a bright light in all of our lives.
She married John Bateson on April 21, 2017 in , Las Vegas, Nevada. He survives of the home.
Other survivors include her son, Jay “Aaron” Wagner, Oskaloosa; two sisters, Joyce Crisman, Shirley Weeks, both of Lawrence; two brothers, Robert D. Estes, Paul Estes, both of Tonganoxie; two grandsons, Blake and Tucker Wagner. She was preceded in death by her sister, Coleen Tabbert and brother, Wayne Estes.
The family will greet friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday, August 2, 2018 at the mortuary.
Memorial Contributions may be made in her name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.

Everytime I think of our girl, all I can think about is FUN! She so LOVED life & everybody she met! RIP, lovely lady.
Marilou was a very special person. She will be missed. Maybe the next time I go golfing she will give me a hole in one from heaven!

I havent seen Marilou much in the last few years, just bumped into her here and there. We had a lot of fun together in high school. I’ll always remember her laughter and funny since of humor. She was a wonderful lady. Sending peaceful thoughts to her family. So sorry for your loss.

Our prayers and thoughts are with John and the family at this very sad time. We have good memories of Marilou spending time with us at Lake Dabinawa several years ago. She will be missed by all those whose lives she touched in a special way.
