Madonna McInroy McMechan

A Mass of Christian Burial for Madonna Adella McInroy McMechan, 77, Lawrence, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 30, 2011 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.  Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Lawrence.  She died April 26, 2011 at her home after a courageous fight with cancer surrounded by her family.

She was born January 9, 1934 south of Tipton, KS the daughter of John Francis and Caroline Frances (Koster) Brummer.

She grew up in and around Tipton and Cawker City, KS. 

Madonna worked at Allen Press for 29 years as a bindery worker.  After retiring, she went to work at Cordley Elementary school in the cafeteria. 

Madonna was a member of St. John Evangelist Catholic Church since 1965, Fraternal Eagles Women Auxiliary group, and a traveling bowling league.  She also enjoyed bingo, painting and flower gardening.  She was awarded the most beautiful yard for several years in a row by the community.

She married Jack L. McInroy in January of 1951.  They later divorced. She then married Larry McMechan in 1976.  They later divorced.

She is survived by three sons, Larry David, and wife, Meta, Steven Lee, and Douglas John, and wife, Polly; two daughters, Kathleen Marie, and husband Alan Carlson, and Linda Kay, and husband, Steve Bruce; eleven grandchildren, Scott, David, Jen, Sara, Stacy, Rachael, Amie, Emilee, Erin, Cody, and Todd; eight great grandchildren; one sister, Danielle, and husband, Gene, Colorado; four brothers, Duane, and wife Sherri, Salina, KS, Kenny, and wife, Betty, Salina, KS, Dennis, and wife, Mary, Cawker City, KS, and Calvin, and wife, Kay, Beloit, KS.  She was also preceded in death by her parents; one grandson, Adam, former husband, Jack McInroy and brother, Lavern.

A parish rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. with visitation to follow until 8:30 p.m. Friday evening at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. 

The family suggests memorials in her name to Douglas County Visiting Nurses, Rehabilitation and Hospice Care and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
