Lillian O’Keefe

The funeral service for Lillian Louise O’Keefe, 84, Lawrence, will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 14, 2010 at the Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, Lawrence. She died on Thursday, June 10, 2010 at Brandon Woods Arbor, Lawrence.

She was born on January 2, 1926 in Oskaloosa, Kansas, the daughter of George Marion and Goldie Zuella (Gano) Shrimplin. She grew up in Jefferson County, Kansas and graduated from Liberty Memorial High School in Lawrence. She was a member of the Stanwood Church.  
 
Mrs. O’Keefe worked as a waitress, at Packer Plastics, Capitol Federal and owned her own printing business, The Quill and Scroll for many years. She enjoyed her home, her flowers and family get togethers.
 
She was married to Leo E. O’Keefe on May 16, 1944 and shared 41 years of marriage with him before he preceded her in death, December 27, 1985. She was also preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Howard, Willard and Lloyd Donald Shrimplin.
 
Survivors include her children Leo O’Keefe, Jr., and wife, Cathy, Lecompton, KS; Rhonda Davenport, Ginny Hedges and husband, Richard and Karen O’Keefe, all of Lawrence; two brothers, Frank Shrimplin, and wife Edith, Valley Falls, KS, and Leo Shrimplin, and wife Jerry, Bolivar, MO; grandchildren, Julie Hedges, Melissa Cannon and husband Robert, all of Lawrence, Erika Lindstrom and husband SSGT Matthew, Anchorage, Alaska, William Davenport and Hillary Harris, Ottawa, and Kyle O’Keefe and wife Amber of Lawrence; and great grandchildren include Kaytlyn Lindstrom, Anchorage, Alaska, Ali O’Keefe, Lawrence and Calee Davenport, Ottawa.
 
She also leaves behind the residents and all of the loving and caring staff in The Arbor at Brandon Woods who made her last year of life a very enjoyable and happy one.
 
She will lie in state on Sunday, June 13, 2010 from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
 
The family suggests memorials in her name to the Employee Recognition Fund for Brandon Woods employees and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.

    We are very sorry to hear about Lillian. We hope that she is at peace and with Leo & Don.
    We are regretful that we will not be able to attend her funeral but hopeful may be able to go see her on Sunday. Our sincerest sympathy-The O’Keefe-Landon family.

    We are saddened to hear of the passing of Aunt Lilly. We have only the warmest memories of our time spent with her. She was a very loving & giving person that ask little or nothing for herself. She was a blessing to all that knew her. Our heart felt sympathy.-Tom & Betty
