Funeral services for Letha M. Gilliland, 98, Lawrence, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 24, 2017 at Central United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Sutton Cemetery in Baldwin City, Kansas. She passed away Saturday, November 18, 2017 at her home.
Letha was born October 31, 1919 in Paradise, MO, the daughter of Burton and Myrtle Ann (Hibbard) Taul.
She served her country in the United States Navy during WWII.
She married Glenn E. Gilliland April 21, 1946 in Baldwin City, KS. He preceded her in death in 1992.
She was a homemaker and had worked at Snedegar Laundry.
Survivors include three daughters, Marsha Ann Fowler (Richard), Trudy L. Gilliland, Kathy Lynn Gallagher, all of Lawrence; one son, Gary E. Gilliland (Judy), Lawrence; four grandchildren, Keith Gilliland (Sarah), Brian Gallagher, both of Lawrence, Kori Alvarado (Salvador), Ft. Worth, TX, Sarah Leal (Jacob), Greeley, CO; seven great grandchildren, Marianna, Sophie, Finley, Cohen, Cadence, Dylan, Sadie; and two brothers, Joe Ed Taul and C.T. Taul, both of Baldwin City. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Julia Heinen; and two brothers, Jamie Taul and Hibbard Taul.
The family will greet friends from 5 – 7 p.m. Wednesday, November 22nd at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in her name to Douglas County VNA Hospice and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
Gary and I are really going to miss Letha! She was like a second mother to us!!
She will always be remembered in our hearts! Especially our trips together!
She was a sweetheart and a wonderful lady!!!
