Leola M. “Janie” Shaffer

Graveside services for Leola M. “Janie” Shaffer, 91, Eudora will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at Eudora Cemetery in Eudora. She died Sunday, May 4, 2014 at Eudora Medicalodges where she has lived for last three years.

Leola was born November 3, 1922 in Harrison County, MO the daughter and second child of Elza O. and Anna “Marie” (Grace) Hensley.

Leola grew up around Martinville and Albany, MO. She graduated in 1941 from Albany High School.

She was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Lawrence.

She worked many years as a CNA at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Lawrence, KS.

She married Eldon Shaffer on March 2, 1941 in Maryville, MO. He preceded her in death 1994. She was also preceded in death by her parents; her son, Jackie Dean Shaffer in 2002; and three brothers, Richard, Jr., Eldon and Robert Hensley

Leola is survived by two brothers, Bill Hensley (Sandra) Liberty, MO, Kenneth Hensley (Joan) Albany, MO; two grandsons; and a host of nieces (Two special nieces Nancy Bagnall and Robyn Neth); and nephews.

The family will greet friends from 1 – 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 7th at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.

The family suggests memorials in her name to Eudora Medicalodges and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
