Judy K. Percival

Funeral services for Judy K. Percival, 77, Lawrence will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 16, 2024, at First Southern Baptist Church in Lawrence.  Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Lawrence.  Judy passed away on Monday, February 12, 2024, surrounded by loved ones.

She was born on February 19, 1946, in Omaha, NE the daughter of Chester Lyle and Mary Ida (Burris) Faulkner.

Judy had a servant’s heart, and she worked in various roles in healthcare throughout her working years.  She started at Lawrence Memorial in the early 70’s and worked there as a CNA for several years.  Her next role in healthcare was at Visiting Nurses Association (VNA) as a home health aide.  After many years of serving out in the field, she transitioned to an inside job as an administrative assistant.  In total, she served for 19 years at Visiting Nurses Association.  She was a caregiver at heart and loved helping others both in her professional and in her personal life.

She was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Lawrence, KS, and enjoyed attending church, volunteering, and participating in ladies Bible study.  Judy loved vegetable gardening and canning as well as planting flowers and thoroughly adored spending hours gardening beside Gene.  Her other passion was Jayhawk basketball, and she was very dedicated to faithfully watching all their games and enthusiastically cheering them on.  Judy took the role of grandma seriously and wanted to soak up as much time as possible with her grandchildren.  She was a proud grandparent who loved attending the activities her grandkids participated in.

She married Laymond Eugene “Gene” Percival on June 8, 1971, in Lawrence, KS.  He preceded her in death on October 1, 2011.  They began their life in Eudora, KS and then moved to Lawrence and spent many happy years together.  Judy fought a battle with Alzheimer’s Disease and in 2021 she was blessed to move into Star Living where she was not a resident but a cherished family member and was known as “Momma” to those who loved and cared for her there.

Survivors include one daughter, Ida Johnson, and husband Brad, Lawrence, two grandchildren, Gabe and Kyla Johnson and one sister, Floria Smith, Commerce City, CO.  She was also preceded in death by her parents and brother, Butch Faulkner.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on February 15, 2024, at the mortuary.

Memorial contributions may be made in her name to Star Living (where Judy resided) or VNA Hospice and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th Street, Lawrence, KS 66044.

    Ida, Brad, Gabe, and Kyla,

Although I never met Judy, I have heard stories from each of you and others over the years. From what I can tell, she passed along many of her traits to Ida and Kyla. She was easy to get along with, quick-witted, and fun, and she loved and cherished her family and held to her strong Christian faith. Who could ask for more?

You and Kyla are the epitome of a loving daughter and granddaughter who did a fantastic job caring for her mother.

Brad and Gabe, you both put much love and effort into caring for Judy. Running errands, taking her places – being her personal “Uber.” Being with her and just sharing time with her.

Mrs. Judy K. Percival, you left one “heckuva” legacy.

So with you: Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy.
    John 16:22 (NIV)

We would push him around in his stroller. When he got older his redflyer wagon. Where he would tell us to go faster. Tell on day he fell out and broke his nose. We grow and loved each other. And are bones were strong as over. I will miss you both very much. Judy you and Buch don’t have to much fun up there with mom and dad. Love you Flo.

Judy Karen left a beautiful footprint in the world. So many memories of her family and friends she will live on in her daughter and grandkids. I was so happy we had are family reunion and we were able to attend Butch’S memorial service in Washington.
I remember the yellow birds they had at the home. She is home with the Father. She is with the love of her life Gene. She is surrounded by our family her parents and her brother.
Judy would not want us to be sad. But to spread her story of her Savior. She had a beautiful life. I will always hold your memories in my heart ♥ . I love you dearly. Wishing I was with you all. But only for a time do we stand still, and a blink of an eye we are present in the Father’s arms and clothed in our new body no more hurts or pains of the old one.
Miss you all Brad, Ida, Gabe and Kayla.
    Love,
Mary Beth, Zachary, Jordan and Jon David Massey
PS. I will see you again Judy when God sends us home.

My Aunt Judy was the best Christian I have ever met. I regret not spending more time with this side of the family growing up. Looking back on the memories I do have of my Aunt Judy, Uncle Gene and Cousin Ida, I enjoyed the family trips almost every summer to KS to visit. Ida and I were the best buds during those visits! As a teenager, when I would talk to her, she would always tell me, ” Margaret, you need to loom to. GOD. Put your heart in his care and he will lead you to the answers.” She was right. Aunt Judy taught me the power of love and being stern when children were involved and I never heard this woman yell but she most certainly got her point across when she was serious. I love you Aunt Judy and I will always carry you in my memories. I’ll see you again one day.
