Funeral services for Juanita M. Church, 96, Eudora will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Inurnment will follow at a later date in Charleston, West Virginia. She died Saturday, July 21, 2012 at Medicaloges in Eudora, KS
She was born April 8, 1916 in Charleston, West Virginia the daughter of Emmett and Frieda (French) Harkins. She was a homemaker and realtor.
She helped start Children’s Hour which is now known as Head Start.
She married Delmar F. Church on June 3, 1939 in Kentucky. He preceded her in death on November 27, 2000.
She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Jane Lynn, seven brothers and sisters. She is survived by her daughter, Susan Howig and husband, Robert of Eudora; a son Daniel Church and wife, Diane of Fairway, KS; two sisters, Ruth Jones of St. Albans, WV, Carole Corner of New Lexington, OH; four grandchildren, Katherine Overfield of Lawrence, Jackie, Anna and Gabriel Church all of Fairway, KS and two great-grandchildren, Paige Lee of Eudora and Blake Overfield of Lawrence.
The family suggests memorials in her name to Alzheimer’s and Related Disorders and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
