John Nunn

John McQueen Nunn, 80, died of cancer on May 23, 2010 at his home in Baldwin City, Kansas.  He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on September 15, 1929, the third of five children, to Leah Agnes (Hennessey) Nunn and Walter Melrose Nunn.

After graduation in 1948 from Warren Easton High School in New Orleans he joined the US Army.  He spent four years on active duty with most of his time served in southern Germany.  Upon his return he began his studies at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge where he received a BS in Business (Accounting) and eventually became a practicing CPA in New Orleans.  During his time at LSU he was well known on campus for being involved in several different leadership roles and service organizations.  In 1957 he married Elizabeth Ann (Stewart) Nunn.  They had two daughters.

On September 8, 2005, directly following the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, he relocated to Kansas to be near his older daughter.

Mr. Nunn is survived by his daughters and their husbands, Elizabeth Ann Nunn Bittlingmayer and George Bittlingmayer (Lawrence), and Jeanne-Marie and Gordon Glass Alexander (Irvine, CA), as well as four grandsons, Adam Mathias Nunn Bittlingmayer (San Jose, CA), Stefan Conrad Nunn Bittlingmayer (Tulsa, OK), Gauen Rhys Alexander (Birmingham, AL), and Ted Ryley Alexander (Irvine, CA).  On January 17, 2010 he was preceded in death by his grandson, Eric Halden Nunn Bittlingmayer, in Lawrence.

He was also preceded in death by his two elder brothers, William Anthony Hirt Nunn and Walter Melrose Nunn, Jr.  He is survived by his two younger sisters and their husbands, Mary Dorothy and Jack Lee Canzonire, and Leah Mary and Harold Joseph Weis, Jr.  He is also survived by seven nieces and nephews, three brothers-in-law, and his former wife.

On Saturday, June 5, 2010 Interment with Military Honors will be in Greenwood Cemetery in New Orleans following a Mass.
