Joan “Jody” Woodward

Funeral services for Joan “Jody” Woodward, 67, Lawrence, KS, will be held at 2 p.m on Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at the First United Methodist Church in Lawrence.  Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Lawrence.  She died on Thursday, November 11, 2010 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Lawrence.

Mrs. Woodward was born on March 15, 1943 in Garden City, KS, the daughter of Roy F. and Velda Vath Tinkum.  She was raised in Cimarron, KS, attended public schools there, and graduated from Cimarron High School.  She had lived in Lawrence since June 1964.

She was the retired director of the Lawrence Meals on Wheels Program, after 25 years service.

Mrs. Woodward was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Lawrence and formerly volunteered for the Lawrence Interdenominational Nutrition Kitchen (LINK), was a former Cub Scout Den Mother, and PTA President at Deerfield Elementary School in Lawrence. Other memberships included the D.A.R., the Pilot Club of Lawrence, where she served as a past president and treasurer.

She was married to Richard Woodward on October 13, 1960 in Cimarron, KS.  He survives of the home.

Other survivors include two sons; Richard Woodward and his partner, Greg Zuendel, Kansas City, Mo, Greg Woodward, his wife, Sally, and their two children, Nic and Lola Woodward, of Overland Park, KS, and a sister, Jeanne Loewen and family, of Montezuma, KS.

The family suggests memorials in her name to the Lawrence Meals on Wheels Program or to the Pilot Club and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.

The family will receive friends from 5:30 – 7 p.m. Monday at the mortuary.

    What a sweet woman. I hadn’t seen her in nearly 45 years until a Cottonwood function last spring. I didn’t know she and Richard were still in town. She sought me out so that we could get re-acquianted. Sveral women ar Cottonwood know her good work and will miss her.

    Jody was such a kind and caring person, wonderful mother and wife, and a special sister-in-law. To Rich, Richard & Greg, Greg and Sally — my heart and prayers are with you and everyone in the family. I know how hard it is to love someone you love so much. Jody was a beautiful person and helped so many in her life. She is in a special place and will forever be in our hearts.
