Jessie M. Garcia

Mass of Christian Burial for Jessie M. Garcia, 81, Lawrence will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 20, 2014 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. She passed away Monday, March 17, 2014 at Rossville Healthcare and Rehabilitation in Topeka.

Jessie was born in December 25, 1932 in Fort Madison, IA the daughter of Felipe and Amanda (Aguilar) Limas.

She worked at Naismith Hall and Ballard Center. She volunteered at Woodlawn School and at St John’s Rummage House and always helped out at the Fiesta. She also volunteered at the Topeka Lulac Senior Center.

She was a member of the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.

She married Silverio Garcia, Sr. on July 17, 1953 in Lawrence. He preceded her in death February 28, 1992. She was also preceded in death by her son Silverio Garcia, Jr.

Survivors include Alicia Toledo (Alex) Topeka, Laura Chavez (Joe) Lawrence, Phil Garcia, Topeka; four grandchildren; one great grandson; one great granddaughter; four sisters; and five brothers.

The family will greet friends from 6 – 7 p.m. with a Rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 19th at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.

The family suggests memorials in her name to St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church for the benefit of the Rummage House and may be sent in care of the mortuary.

    Our thoughts and prayers are with you all and your whole family at this time of loss. A pleasant memory is the picture we have of her at Antonio’s baptism with Father Adam, my nephew as well as Alex’s mom. I know she will be greatly missed by your whole family.
