James “Fred” Stockton

James “Fred” Stockton, 83, passed away on February, 4, 2023. Born to Jewell and Dora Mae (Johnson) Stockton in Hot Springs, Arkansas, he earned a BS in mathematics from Arkansas Tech University and an MBA from Drury College. He was a proud US Army veteran and was honorably discharged in 1964. That same year, he married Barbara Rhew, a native of Bradford, Arkansas. He and Barbara raised three children while he worked as an engineer, operations manager, plant manager and operations director in the packaging industry; his career spanned more than 30 years.  During his working years, he was employed with Coleman (Wichita, KS and Somerset, PA), Owens Illinois (Springfield, MO, Holmdel, NJ, and Toledo, OH), James River Corporation (Fort Smith, AR), E&E Specialties (Lawrence, KS) and Packaging Products (Mission, KS).

Fred was an avid sportsman. He spent much of his leisure time fishing for striped bass around the Hot Springs, AR area, hunting in western Kansas, and golfing where ever he could find an open tee time.  After his retirement in 1997, he and Barbara traveled in their RV to the mountains of Colorado, coastal North Carolina, Yellowstone National Park, and other scenic locations, always stopping to spend time with family and grandchildren along the way. After Barbara’s passing, he often reminisced about his travels, speaking of them with great fondness.

He is survived by his sons- John (Rebecca) and George, and grandchildren- Rachel, Emma, Brock Morris, and Cole Morris. He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara and daughter Sarah. He also leaves behind a multitude of extended family members and friends.

A memorial service to celebrate Fred’s life is forthcoming.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (www.act.alz.org)

We got to know Fred while he lived at Homestead of Eudora.
He was like family to us, as we saw him most everyday.
He always asked “ where’s my wife”
    So sweet!

My Mom, Doris, also lived there since 2020 and she and Fred had a special bond.
    We will never forget Fred.
    Prayers for your family.
