Funeral services for Helen Louise Edwards, 81, Bonner Springs will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 2, 2015 at De Soto Baptist Church in De Soto. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lawrence. She passed away Sunday, June 28, 2015 at her home.
Helen was born December 26, 1933 in Milo, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph Allen and Veva Mae (Kessler) Chase.
She was a life member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, a Queen in the Red Hat Society, a past president of the Santa Fe Women’s Club, past president of the Lawrence Welcome Club, and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was also a member of the De Soto Baptist Church and the American Baptist Women – Region Association and local.
She worked for Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway in Kansas City and Topeka until she retired in 1998. She had previously worked as an accounting clerk for Northwestern Bell in Des Moines, IA.
She married Kenneth Clark Edwards December of 1962 in St. Joseph, MO. He preceded her in death May 12, 2002.
Survivors include one son, Gordon Allen Jones and wife, Darlene, Bonner Springs, KS; one daughter, Monica Sue Allen, Ashville, AL; two grandchildren, Dawneen A. Benedetto and husband, Jacob Benedetto, Debra Jo L. Walker; and one sister, Melinda Sue Cole, Des Moines, IA. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Wayne Allen Chase.
The family will greet friends from 6:30 – 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.

Memorial contributions may be made in her name to De Soto Baptist Church and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
Helen made all our lives much brighter, more fun, and filled with all things beautiful! Her life was a very positive testimony of her love for God, as well as others.
Helen was a precious ABW sister who was a sweet testimony for her Lord. She has been missed at our ABW state gatherings.
Aunt Helen: Your passing has brought sorrow, heartache, & many tears to all of us. Wishing we would have known about your passing, to make every effort to attend your memorial service. You have left all of us with many great memories that we shall always cherish…… May you rest in peace. Please give Uncle Kenny all of our love.
