Harold Johanning

Funeral services for Harold L. “Zeke” Johanning, 90, Lawrence, KS, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, September 10, 2010 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.  Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Lawrence.

He died on Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at Brandon Woods at Alvamar in Lawrence, KS.

Mr. Johanning was born on January 27, 1920 in the Worden Community in SW Douglas County, the son of Otto L. & Ottilie Schaake Johanning.

He was a retired rural letter carrier.

Mr. Johanning was a member of the Rural Letter Carriers Association, and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE).  He was also a former member of the Douglas County Farm Bureau and a member of the Future Farmers of America Alumni Association.

He was married to Mary Alice Houghton on March 5, 1960 in Topeka, KS.  She preceded him in death on August 14, 1999.

Survivors include a brother, Glenn A. Johanning, of Lawrence, KS and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Penny and a brother, Elmer Johanning.
 
The family will greet friends from noon to service time on Friday at the mortuary.

The family suggests memorials in his name to the Douglas County Visiting Nurses, Rehabilitation and Hospice Care or to the Future Farmers of America Alumni Association and may be sent in care of the mortuary.

    The kids and I called Bingo at Brandon Woods for the past several years. Their favorite part about it was seeing King Bingo, Mr. Zeke. he had such a sweet fun nature about him. Our family will miss him. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
