Glady Burge

Memorial service for Gladys Fredrick Burge, 86, Lawrence, KS, will be 3 p.m. Friday, March 6, 2009 at the Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.  Inurnment will be at Pioneer Cemetery on the West Campus of Kansas University.  She died February 28, 2009, at Harbor House Memory Care Residence.

She was born September 4, 1922, in Strawberry Point, Iowa, the daughter of William A. and Emma (Baumgartner) Fredrick.

Mrs. Burge graduated from the University of Iowa in 1948.  She served in the U.S. Navy Waves during WW II. 

She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.  She volunteered with the Red Cross for 17 years as well as volunteering for Audio Reader in Lawrence.  She was a former member of the Lawrence Human Relations Commission, a member of Rotary Anns and the University Women’s Club.

She married Frank Burge on December 22, 1947, in Waverly, Iowa.  He preceded her in death on July 3, 2004.

Survivors include two brothers, William C. Fredrick, Laguna Niguel, CA, and Raymond Fredrick, Waverly, IA; two sisters, Deleva Opperman, and Lillian Jahr, both of Waverly, IA.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Gladys Fredrick Burge Cancer Care Fund or to the Glad Fund at the Harbor House and sent in care of the mortuary.
