Geraldine Ashmore Osborne

Memorial celebration of life service for Geraldine Anita Ashmore Osborne, 93, of Lawrence, Kan. will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, January 7, 2013 at First United Methodist Church in Lawrence.  She died Tuesday, January 1, 2013 at Brandon Woods.

Geraldine (Jerry) was born Aug. 23, 1919, in Kansas City, Kan., the only child to Harvey and Eula (Roe) Duncan.

She attended Chelsey Grade School and Northwest Middle School. She then attended Wyandotte High School, graduating in 1938. Her class was the first to graduate from Wyandotte High School. While in high school she worked at Kresky’s Dime Store and Halls Ice Cream Store and was a member of the Kelita Club.

In 1940, she married Artie Lee Ashmore, who entered the Army in 1941.  While Artie was in the service, Jerry went to work in the blueprint department at North American Aviation, which built B25 bombers. She became a homemaker when Artie was discharged for poor health. They had 3 children; Stephen, Candice and Mark. Artie owned and operated Ashmore Pontiac in Kansas City, Kan. He died Jan. 27, 1961. Jerry married Harold B. Osborne in October, 1964. He had two children: Cheryl and David. He owned and operated Overland Park Savings and Loan. Jerry and Harold enjoyed bowling, traveling, fishing and entertaining. They spent much of their time at their lake home in the Ozarks and, later, at their retirement home in Alamo, Tex. Harold died in June 6, 1994.

Jerry moved to Lawrence, Kan., in 2006, first living in her home and then moving to Brandon Woods in 2009.  She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Olathe, Kan., but transferred her membership to the First United Methodist Church in Lawrence. She was also a member of the United Methodist Women and Noon Luncheon UMW Circle. She enjoyed lunches with the LOL (Ladies of Longleaf) club.

Jerry had a wonderful sense of humor and a gentle personality. She enjoyed playing the piano, dancing, playing cards, working crossword puzzles, entertaining and cooking. She always had a new recipe to try.
 
Jerry is survived by her children: Stephen D. (Cindy), Liberty, Mo; Candice S. (Dave) Ranney, Lawrence; Mark A., Kansas City, Mo.; Cheryl K. Weber, Overland Park, Kan.; David F. (Suzanne) Osborne, Berryton, Kan.; sister-in-law, Helen Osborne,  Olathe, Kan.; 17 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials in her name to the First United Methodist Church, 946 Vermont Street, Lawrence, 66049.
