Memorial services for Gerald “Garry” Kent Dunavin, 67, Eudora, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 18, 2019 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary – Eudora Chapel in Eudora, KS. Gerald passed away Tuesday, October 15, 2019 at his home.
Garry was born August 24, 1952 in Lawrence, Kansas, the son of Paul and Ruth (Ryan) Dunavin.
He graduated from Eudora High School in 1970. He was drafted into the army in October of 1970. He served in Germany until May of 1972. He was awarded a National Defense Service Medal along with a Sharpshooter M16 Medal.
He retired from the KU Athletic Department where he worked as a Facility Maintenance Worker.
He married Fran Williams on July 29, 1989 in Lawrence, Kansas and celebrated 30 years of marriage. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include his children; Rachel (Steve) Benoit, Jake (Kyli) Dunavin, Taylor Dunavin, adopted girls; Tiffany and Danielle Pickering, three grandsons; Joshua Kent Benoit, Cole Benoit, Kane Dunavin, four siblings; Paula (Dino) Guffey, Daniel (Peggy) Dunavin, Dennis Dunavin, Terry (Annie) Dunavin, and several nieces and nephews.
Garry was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings; Jean Colley, L.D. Dunavin, Roddy Dunavin, and Bob Dunavin.
Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Garry Dunavin Memorial Fund and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th Street, Lawrence, KS 66044.
Garry was a happy go-lucky person that will be missed by all. So sorry for your loss.
