Georgia Mae Wingfield

Graveside service for Georgia Mae Wingfield, 80, Lecompton, KS will be held 2:00 pm Friday, September 9, 2016 at Eastview Cemetery in Big Springs, KS. She died September 3, 2016 at Pioneer Ridge Assisted Living.

She was born on January 18, 1936 in Stull, Kansas the daughter of T. Russell Spencer and Maude Hazel Hermon.

She was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ in Stull, Kansas

For many years Georgia and her spouse were involved in dairy farming. After they got out of farming about 1980 she worked various office administration jobs until a car accident in 2012.

Georgia was well known for her cooking and vegetable and flower gardening skills.

She joined the Sunshine Club in Lecompton many years ago and had lunch with friends from high school (the Lunch Bunch) on a regular basis.

Having started bowling on leagues in the early 60’s she was very passionate about bowling and won many, many awards throughout the years.

Georgia married William S. Wingfield on August 12, 1956 in Lawrence, Kansas. He preceded her in death on April 27, 2001.

Survivors include two daughters, Anita Evanhoe (Chuck) Dayton, Ohio, Janet Ardery (Bob) Gardner, KS; son, Scott Wingfield (Lori) Milliken, CO; two brothers, Philip Spencer (Gwen), Melvern, KS, Jim Spencer (Fonda), Quenemo, KS; nine grandchildren, Matthew, Joni, Jessie, Michael, Heather Johnson (Tyler), Ali, Cody, Nick and Makenna; one great-grandson, Jace Johnson. She was preceded in death by her sister, Bonnie Hinck.

The family will greet friends Thursday, September 8, 2016 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Warren-McElwain in Lawrence.

Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Youth bowling league at Hillcrest or Stull Church of Christ and may be sent in care of the mortuary.

    Sorry to hear of Georgia’s passing. Many good times as kids at the Spencer reunions and picnics. My parents are Lloyd and Betty Spencer. Both are gone now as well. Love to all.
