George “Sonny” Schumock

Funeral services for George “Sonny” Melvin Schumock, 71, Lawrence will be held at 3:00 p.m. Monday, November 24, 2014, at Grace Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Lawrence. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. He passed away Friday, November 21, 2014, at his home.

Sonny was born January 12, 1943, in Clifton, KS, the son of George A. and Evelyn Marie (Dotson) Schumock.

He was an Over-the-road truck driver, KU police officer, Lawrence Bus Company manager, J.W. Contractors dump truck driver.

He married Katherine “Sue” Trude on December 5, 1964, in Clifton, KS. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include son, Thomas Edward “Eddie” Schumock and wife, Carol of Lawrence; daughter, Michelle Marie Beard and husband, Scott of Lawrence; 7 grandchildren, Travis Doudna (Tiffany Hatch), Kenny Beard, Rachel Beard (Ben Fitch), Samantha Schumock-Hiesberger, David Schumock (Shantele Bowlin), Cody Williamson (Courtney) and Darian Williamson; 9 great-grandchildren, Arianna Hiesberger, Wyatt and Brynnley Williamson, Kayden Bowlin and Mason Schumock, Matt, Cayden, Alissa and Destiny Hatch; sisters, Connie Dickinson and Mary Guidry both of Concordia, KS. He was preceded in death by his sister Jessie Specht and son George Daniel “Danny” Schumock.

Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Douglas County Special Olympics and may be sent in care of the mortuary.

The family will greet friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday, November 23, 2014, at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.

    I am so sorry for your loss. George was a wonderful man with an amazing smile who always made me laugh every time that I saw him and he will greatly be missed by all who knew him.
