Francis Worley

Funeral services for Francis Raymond Worley, 88, Gardner, will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, October 25, 2010 at Central United Methodist Church in Lawrence.  Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lawrence, Kansas.

Mr. Worley died Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at Vintage Park in Gardner, Kansas. He had been a Lawrence resident since 1956.

Francis was born January 2, 1922, in Tonganoxie, KS, the son of Lester Raymond and Jessie Davidson Worley. 

Following high school graduation, he served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945 as a Corporal.

Mr. Worley worked as a clerk in the United States Post Office from 1957 until he retired in 1984.

He was a member of Central United Methodist Church in Lawrence. He was also a 50-year member of the Lawrence Masonic Lodge #6.  He enjoyed dancing at the senior center.

Francis married Bonnie June Laughlin on September 2, 1942 in Harrisonville, MO.  She survives of the home.

He is also survived by four sons, Gary Francis, and his wife Rita Worley, Monticello, AR, David Ward, and wife, Maria Worley, Lawrence, KS, Dennis Raymond, and wife, Mary Worley, Gardner, KS, and Craig Alan, wife, Rhonda Worley, Lawrence, KS; Eight grandchildren; and twenty great grandchildren; one sister, Phyllis Day, Warsaw, MO.  He
was preceded in death by one sister and one brother.

The family will greet friends Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.

The family suggests memorials in his name to the Odyssey Hospice and may be sent in care of the mortuary.

    This never gets easy even working with older folks every day. I burst into tears on Wednesday when Chris called me and told me we had lost Uncle Francis. I can still see his face which so reminds me of my sweet Grandma. He was the nicest, kindest man. Never a harsh word.
