Funeral services for Florence M. McGuire, 84, Lawrence will be held 9 a.m. Saturday, September 10, 2011 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Burial will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, September 11, 2011 at High Point Cemetery in High Point, MO. She died September 4, 2011 in the Arbor at Brandon Woods at Alvamar.
She was born April 17, 1927 the daughter of Raymond J. and Grace E. (Francis) Stevens.
She graduated from Eldon High School. She was an Accountant Clerk for the University of Kansas. Florence was a member of the First Baptist Church in Lawrence.
She is survived by one nephew, Lester Stevens, Independence, MO; one niece, Joyce Petrie, Lawrence, KS; two great nieces, Dana Guest, City of Lake Saint Louis, MO, Shelly McColm, Lawrence, KS; great nephews, Kevin Currence, Olathe, KS and Nathan Stevens, Independence, MO; eight great-great nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Douglas County Visiting Nurses Association, Rehabilitation or Hospice Care or the Alzheimer’s Association and may be sent in care of the mortuary.

I met Florence when we both lived in Gaslight Village. I also worked down the hall in the Comptroller’s office when she worked in Research Accounting. We were friends for many years and had wondered what had happened to her after she rtired. My thoughts and prayers are to the family and a friend that will be missed.
I remember Florence from many years at First Baptist church, she was always so friendly and pleasant with a warm smile. A quiet and faithful servant. The picture is just how I think of her. A real lady.
