Emma Eliza Ball Pogge

Funeral services for Emma Eliza Ball Pogge, 102, Lawrence will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 8, 2015 at Lawrence Free Methodist Church. Burial will be held at 2:30 p.m. at Leavenworth National Cemetery in Leavenworth, KS.

She was born May 3, 1912 in Hillsboro, IL the daughter of George and Pheobe (Bestwick) Ball.

She served her country in the United States Army Air Corp and the United States Air Force as a Tech. Sargent during World War II from 1943 – 1951.

She was a member of the Lawrence Free Methodist Church. During her lifetime she was active in both music and children’s ministries at church.

Emma was a clerical/typist/secretary during her military service and worked for Curtist Publishing and Janet Glass Company until she retired in August 1951.

She married Ernest C. Pogge December 20, 1950 in Westmoreland City, PA. He survives of the home.

Other survivors include one daughter, Dorothy L. Pogge; one son, George W. Pogge, both of Lawrence; three grandchildren; and one great grandchild. She was preceded in death by all four of her sisters.

The family will greet friends from 6 – 8 p.m. on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in her name to Free Methodist Missions or Women’s Veterans Memorial Foundation and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
