Elizabeth Lester

No funeral services are planned for Elizabeth “Betty” Lester, 93, Lawrence who died August 3, 2010 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.  

She was born on July 11, 1917 in Washington, Pennsylvania the daughter of Louis A. and Juanita (Donley) Gensch.  Her whole family moved to Wichita, KS when she was a child.  She attended Wichita public schools and graduated from the University of Wichita in 1938 with a bachelor’s in education. After college she taught in the Cimarron, KS public schools.

Mrs. Lester married William M. “Mac” Lester of Wichita in 1940.  He preceded her in death July 23, 1987.  In 1947 they moved to Houston, TX.  She taught English in the public schools there and had her own television program on the educational channel on creative writing.  After she retired from teaching she and her husband moved to Panorama Village, TX.  In 1994 she moved to Lawrence, KS to be with her oldest son, Robert’s family.
 
Survivors include three son, Robert M. Lester, and wife, Linda E., Lawrence, Louis Dean Lester, and wife, Valerie, Richmond, TX and Kenneth E. Lester, and wife, Lisa, Fort McKavett, TX.; nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren 

Memorial contributions may be made in her name to Douglas County Visiting Nurses Association, Rehabilitation and Hospice Care and may be sent in care of the mortuary.

    Linda, I wish to send you and your husband my condolences for the loss of your Elizabeth. I know you have been wonderful caregivers for a number of years, and will miss her. Also, Linda I hope you continue to improve in health. See you soon.
