Edward Daniels

A celebration of remembrance for Edward B. Daniels, 89, Lawrence, will be held at a later date.  His body has been cremated and per his wish his ashes “will be thrown into the wind over Marblehead Harbor,” where he spent his carefree early days sailing.  Mr. Daniels died August 24, 2010 at Brandon Woods at Alvamar. 

He was born on February 19, 1921 in Marblehead, Massachusetts the son of Earl Goodell and Mary Jane Savoy Daniels.  

He served in the US Navy from 1939 to 1945 in both the North Atlantic and South Pacific.  He earned a BA at Boston University and a MA at Simmons College.  He was a Librarian at Enoch Pratt in Baltimore, and in Worcester, MA, then became Director of Dearborn Library in Michigan and finally Director of the Columbus Public Library in Ohio.  He was a member of Rotary and after leaving the library profession he owned and managed Sugar Tree Farm in Gambier, Ohio.  He coached the Kenyon College Equestrian Team and rode with the Rocky Fork Headley Hunt.

He married Bernice Emerich Cudd in May 17, 1971 in Columbus, Ohio.  She survives of the home.

Other survivors include, two daughters, Debbie and her husband, Philip Neguere, Dallas, TX, Donna Kurtz, San Jose, CA; one stepdaughter, Ann Cudd and her husband, Neal Becker and their sons, Alex & Thomas Becker, both of Lawrence; stepsons, Tim Cudd and wife, Evelyn, College Station, TX and Ben Cudd and wife, Lynn McCarty, Golden, CO; four grandsons, Dan, Casey, Edward and Steven.
