No organized funeral service planned for Duane Melvin Brooks, 67, Lawrence, he chose cremation and his family honored those wishes. A Celebration of Life Party and Cookout is planned for January 15, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at 4441 Freeman Rd in Manhattan, KS (call Anna for directions at home), all family, friends and co-workers are invited to come share his life. He died December 16, 2011 at his home.
Duane was born on November 26, 1944 in Westmoreland, KS and grew up in Olsburg, KS the son of Clinton and Betty Jean (Moore) Brooks.
He attended and graduated from Blue Valley High School. He worked in the automotive industry, he spent 10 years with Volkswagen and then 22 ½ years at Jim Clark Motors in Lawrence, KS until it closed.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman, coffee drinker and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He was a member of Three Rivers Branch of the National Wild Turkey Federation in Manhattan, KS.
He married Anna Clark on May 24, 1996 in Lawrence, KS. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include one step-daughter, Susan K. Rogers and husband, Tim, Lawrence; one step-son, John Staples, Independence, MO; one brother Dwight, and wife, Linda, Topeka, KS; three sisters, Marla Brandon, and husband, Bryan, Wamego, KS, Marilyn Martin, Concordia, KS, and Maureen (Sue) McGathy and husband, Bill, of Phoenix, Arizona; three step-grandchildren, Breyanna K. Helm, Elyjah G. Helm, and Paizley M. Helm; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in his name to Lawrence Humane Society and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
