Dorene Evelyn Carter was the daughter of C.C. and Ruth Brewer. She was born on June 28, 1924 at Haleyville, Oklahoma. She had two brothers, Clayton and Walter Ray Brewer, both are deceased, and two sisters, Ava Belle Villyard and Lois Needham, both are deceased.
She graduated from the Paris High School, Paris, Arkansas, in 1943, she then graduated from the Draughn’s Business College in Little Rock, Arkansas.
On March 15, 1944, she was united in marriage with W.C. Carter. They shared more than 71 years of married life together. They resided in Eudora for 48 years.
Dorene was the mother of three children. One son, James Robert Carter, wife Susie Carter, of Wichita, KS and two daughters, Carol Elaine Holmes, husband Joe Holmes, of Halstead, KS, and Cynthia Jean Allen, husband David Allen, of Rochester, MN.
She was the grandmother of eight granddaughters: Lori Carter Taylor; Sara Holmes Dockery, Joanna Holmes Lacanlale, Megan Holmes McGraw; Debra Allen Flom, Danielle Allen, Melanie Allen Kulmeshkenova, and Michelle Allen; and ten great grandchildren: Christian Taylor, Kelsey Taylor, Luke Taylor, Joseph Dockery, Katelynn Dockery, Lorelei Dockery; Ashlyn Flom, Jack Flom, Hannah McGraw and Caleb Lacanlale.
She was a member of the Church of Christ.
Funeral services for Dorene will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 16, 2015 at the Church of Christ, 1530 Winchester Road, Eudora, KS 66025. Burial will follow at Eudora Cemetery.
We’re so sorry we can’t be with you in person as you celebrate Dorene’s life. We’ve been reminiscing all weekend. We have such fond memories that we’ll cherish forever. We so appreciate the example Uncle Dub and Aunt Doby have set for the rest of us. Know that you are in our thoughts and prayers.
