Charmaine (Shalley) Gasper died peacefully on May 20, 2014 at Pioneer Ridge Retirement Community after an extended illness.
Shalley was born July 2, 1928 to James and Amanda Wolford in Wellington, Kansas.
She was educated in Wellington Public Schools, and attended Wesley Nursing School in Wichita where she earned her Registered Nursing Certification.
Shalley married Arthur (BZ) Gasper in Albuquerque, New Mexico on November 5, 1949.
Shalley and BZ moved to Lawrence, where Stephen and Sally were born.
Shalley was a homemaker and community volunteer, working at the Lawrence Blood Center, and later with Douglas County Visiting Nurses as a hospice nurse.
Shalley is preceded in death by her parents, husband BZ, and brother Raymond. She is survived by a sister, Shirley of Dallas Texas, and her children Stephen, Houston, Texas, and Sally, Overland Park, Kansas.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, May 23 at First Christian Church.
The family suggests memorials in her name to the Lawrence Humane Society or Douglas County Visiting Nurses and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.

Sally and Stephen we are so sorry to hear of your Mom’s passing. We would have attended the funeral but got the information too late. She was one of my Mom’s best friends.
